The role: Product Manager, Infrastructure (Compute, Storage, Networking)

Google is looking for talented, results-oriented, and self-directed technologists to help drive our Infrastructure solutions from inception through launch and iterations. Google Product Managers combine a great instinct for developing compelling products with a strong academic background and the technical aptitude as well as the business sense to gather requirements, help define a product vision and strategy, and work with world-class engineers to execute it. Google's infrastructure turns ideas and code into awe-inspiring products and services for the world. The Infrastructure products span Compute, Storage and Networking. As an Infrastructure Product Manager, you will see far out into the needs of future users whether for massively scalable underlying services, planet-scale data-management or an amazingly fast and efficient internet. The focus will be on users, features, strategy, economics and policy to help reinvent the future with even more powerful infrastructure capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Define product vision and strategy, build and execute product roadmaps to support our goals that users endorse
• Gather and publish functional requirements for specific features (e.g. consistency model, query interfaces, APIs, QPS, storage needs, latency and performance characteristics)
• Drive engineering to build a cost model, identifying fixed and variable costs of running a service and lead engineering and platforms to reduce costs
• Work with engineering and clients to implement, iterate, track and communicate product development as well as developing Product launch plans
• Be the voice of the product to users, executives, partners and as needed the media as well

Requirements:

• BA/BS preferred in Computer Science or a related engineering field; M.S. or Ph.D is a plus
• At least 5 years of management experience in building and scaling complex, mission critical solutions
• Hands-on software development experience with a proven track record of relevant product delivery, such as operating systems, device drivers, storage, networking, embedded or other low level technologies
• Demonstrated ability to gather user requirements across diverse product areas and convert them into a compelling product vision
• Excellent problem solving, analytical, people and organizational management skills
